The Chicken share for meat is only offered if you commit to participating in two of chicken harvest dates each year. Otherwise it is not part of the Personal Farmer Programâ„¢
Our Philosophy
We raise heritage chickens. Breeds well suited to our cold, dry climate. We do not raise the breeds of bird that you purchase in the grocery store-typicall referred to as cornish type crosses. We tried, once. We thought at least we can give them a good life. The problem is they have been so selectively breed for that they need more than a good life. They have difficulty standing because they grow so fast that their limbs and organs cannot support they weight of their chest and they cannot defend themselves against our agile heritage breed layers.
Your Layers
We keep Wyandottes, Sussex, Americana, Barred rocks, Buff Orpingtons, rare French Copper Maurans, Buttercups, Buckeyes, and a fancy pants rooster called an Egyptian Faomis named Napoleon (not a layer obviously). Our eggs are green, tan, blue, speckled dark chocolate, and white. Our Personal Farmer Programâ„¢ provides your family with a dozen eggs a week for the months that the farm is open.
Your Meat Birds
We grow your broiler/roasting chickens from Delaware, Buff Orpingtons, Rhode Island Reds, Turkens, Jersey Giants, etc. stock from McMurray Hatchery. What this means is that it takes 4-6 months to grow out our meat birds.
